- Sealioning is a more subtle and very irritating form of trolling. Those who engage in sealioning initially appear to be asking polite questions.[1]
- Johnson offers an alternative term because she argues that "sealioning" is "opaque and obscure." She borrows from the information technology and computational community to suggest that "sealioning," as she writes, is a "type of denial of service (DoS) attack—one aimed at humans rather than servers."[2]
- Sealioning is a classic strategy of early trolling, but the meaning of "troll" itself continues to shift, so that’s not much help. For the moment, I will stick with the term “sealioning,” although I offer an alternative below.[3]
